Shouts outs and learned lessons

So firstly, I thought I would give a mention to Mr. Charity himself, Michael Rouse-Deane. He's the philanthropic genius who dreamed up and put me in that Charity book last year, and he's now embarking on a year long 'Guest Strip Project', also for the Make-A-Wish Foundation. There will be two strips a week based around a continuing set of characters, and each strip is drawn by a different artist. Mine is appearing next week, I believe, but it kicked off today, so I thought I'd give you all good notice to go on over and show support for this project:

http://www.moovok.co.uk/gsp/index.php

Also, those of you keeping in touch with the UK music scene may well have heard of a band called 'Does It Offend You, Yeah?'. Well about a year or so ago, the band's management contacted me and asked me to come up with a logo for them. I did a couple of ideas, but when they requested more changes, I just didn't have the time to do anymore, and had to let it slide. Boy, do I feel stupid now. Their damn logo stares out at me from every HMV, Fopp and Virgin (sorry 'Zavvi') store in the land right now, making me seethe with self-annoyance.

For the purposes of posterity, here's what I came up with at the time, so I guess you can tell why they didn't make the grade. Ho hum... another lesson is learned. When the next unwieldly titled band gets in touch, i'll pay more attention...

As the cartoons have been so slow to appear recently, I thought i'd share with you all what i've been doing beyond The Elsewhere. It's been a busy couple of months, and i've been drawing cartoons for a variety of different projects.

I've done another strip for the webcomic philanthropist, Mr. Rouse-Deane. That'll be appearing in April, and i'll post it up here when he puts it up on his site. I've also completed doing the cartoons for an online game for Philips Shavers. They sponsor the ATT Williams F1 team, so the company I work for has produced their website, and provided game to play as competitions. That should be going live soon, so i'll post that up later.

But for now, the big marquee tent pole attraction is the wonderful site for British Heart Foundation. As many may well know, i'm a webdesigner by trade and a cartoonist by hobbyist. So I was very heavily involved in the creation of this site. I created all the characters (besides Sick Rick, the purple suit angry faced thing) and several of the buildings, which were then handed over to 3D Designers, and then animated in the environment. It's been great seeing my doodles brought stumbling into life, and one I hope I get another chance to do. So far the site's been featured in countless magazines, including Creative Review, and bizarrely enough Hello (a career high, obviously). It's also one a few awards, including Site of the Month in Web Designer Magazine, not least FWA Site Of The Day. Needless to say i'm dead chuffed.

Check it out here: http://food4thought.bhf.org.uk/

Tag onto that, my upcoming appearance in the legendary Jamie Smart's 'Fatchunk Vol.1' and 2008 seems to be squaring up nicely. Now all I need to do is pull my thumb out my butt and start getting cartoons for your enjoyment and perusal. Should be one coming your way in the next day or two.

Cheerio!

In fact i'm already half way through a strip, and have had to can a Christmas strip that i'll save for next year now... So new strips will appear shortly.

My feeble excuse this time for not supplying you with free merriment is that i've been hard at work at my page for Fat Chunk. It's a book run by the legendary Jamie Smart (he of Bear, Space Raoul and Angry Little Robot fame). It's an anthology thingy that will be available in proper book shops and everything, and is therefore something I wanted to invest some proper time in, rather than doing my usual bit of drawing-on-a-train-slapdashery and hoping for the best. Above is the opening frame, and you'll have to buy the book come May time to see how it pans out! Failing that, have a butchers at the official site for more info:

http://www.fatchunkcomic.com/

Hope you all have a great year! 2007 was a good 'un, but it's time to pull thumbs out and get this whole cartoon business sorted once and for all. SO! New Years Resolution, get a proper website (I know I know) and maybe get a book together of all the strips created so far. Anyone up for that?

Have a great one everybody, and many thanks for stopping by!

Hello all...

Apologies for the slowness of updating (again). Although this time i'm not slacking off, i've just got other cartoony projects i'm working on that won't see the light of day so immediately as this strip allows.

I just finished my page for 'The Kids Book Project' that I mentioned before, so i'm glad that's in the bag. If you want to see it, we're still taking preorders, so please please head on over Michael Rouse-Deane's site, and order your copy now!

http://www.moovok.co.uk/kids/index.php

There's a couple of personal projects i'm involved in, and I'm also working on some character designs at work which will be turned into 3D avatars for an up-and-coming website... Exciting stuff...

I'm also tinkering with how I create Elsewhere strips too. Nothing that you'd probably notice, but i'm anal, and things like my handwritten lettering could use some tightening up. All in all, i'm still on my arse, drawing on the train in the morning, but it's all for other purposes. But my Elsewhere fingers are getting itchy, so i'm sure i'll have a new strip up very soon... if not by the end of this week, then DEFINITELY next week.

Definitely definite.

Cheerio!
